I once had a metal model of an airplane that was called 'A FLYING WING' when I was around 9 or ten and I wish I still had it, but like so many childhood and youthful possessions, they are often lost or given away or destroyed or deteriorated, etc.
The FLYING WING, as I later learned, was experimental and several countries tried variations of such or designed such prior to and during and after WORLD WAR II. Some old movie serials, such as, one with DICK TRACY, featured a 'FLYING WING.
WWII also saw the famous 'FOO FIGHTERS' and interest in 'ball lightning' and other aerial phenomena, usually weird types, historical affairs, considered also to be the result of 'hysteria', ignorance, superstition, and distorted vision, such as huge airships in the skies when there were no aircraft until 'THE AGE OF BALLOONS', although some creative persons with both genius and imagination, like Leonardo Da Vince, designed 'airships' and way to fly, like birds, etc.
FLIGHTS OF FANCY continued to push until actual heavier than air flying machines, many varied and complicated, seldom getting off the ground affairs, were built and experimented until the officially recognized work of the WRIGHT BROTHERS despite other lesser known accomplishments claimed.
THE NOTION OF FLYING SAUCERS OR AS THEY CAME TO BE CALLED EVENTUALLY, UFO's, UNIDENTIFIED FLYING OBJECTS, came into 'general appreciation' by the public and others when I was in the 7th & 8th grades. Of course, science fiction and fantasy tales had things flying and also people and SPACE TRAVEL had taken on more direct significance with ROCKETS, buzz bombs and V2's and the like and dreaming of moon flights had always been a topic of serious consideration by some, aside from JULES VERNE & HG WELLS.
My science teacher in Junior High School, actually a biology teacher, etc., Mr. Wesley Paige, read us the articles he found on UFO's and FLAYING SAUCERS in class and this whetted my interest in such and I began to read about such in the popular books, paper backs, that often sold for a quarter and were generally known as, 'pocket books' a brand name because they fitted into your pockets and were easy to care and read and handle.
I have since then been noting, from time to time, this subject and have some books and materials which, when I have time, will discuss or share here, and still find the world is interested in such things, despite obvious disclaimers and dismissals of such by 'authorities who know' and 'authorities who don't know' as well as by 'officials' of various governments, military organizations, and 'concerned corporations' leading many to conclude, rightly or wrongly, that there is a massive conspiracy and cover-up of all material relating to this subject area.
I am dedicating this blog to JOHN M. MELONEY, a writer on this subject, an investigator on this subject and the first serious person I ever knew and met on this subject.
